Ghyslaine medals at Orford Loppet

Congratulations to Ghyslaine D who medaled in the 16km Masters loppet at Orford today. Her time was 1:18 or 12.31 km/ hr. Clearly all the hard training is paying dividends
She was registered as a member of the Beavertails Nordic Ski Club. Wow…
Next week end Ghyslaine is doing the Gatineau loppet. Go for it “loopy”
Ghyslaine was not alone today, her older brother, Jean, did 32 km in 2:11 or 14.5 km/hr. and her other brother Richard did 16 km in 1:11 or 13.5 km/hr. Some family….

47 Hearty Eaters at “Melrose Place” Pot Luck Lunch

Our annual celebration of communal exercising and eating began under a freezing drizzle at Mount Royal at 10 am.  Despite the less than appealing conditions, 20 hardy members showed up at the Beaver Lake chalet.  Eleven people set out for a walk on the mountain, seven donned their skates and took to the rink, and the remaining pair jumped on their mountain bikes(!) and took to the trails.  For us skaters, there was a choice of the well-maintained rink adjacent to the chalet, or the just-opened wide-open ice surface of Beaver Lake.  While it is always a pleasure to skate on such a large surface, the ice on Beaver Lake was bumpier.  So after trying the lake ice for a few minutes, we Continue reading

Christmas Party Dec 02 2011

40+ at the Christmas Party

Last Friday evening a large group of impressively well-groomed Beaver Tails gathered at Linguini’s in Baie d’Urfé.  We were there to celebrate the holiday season and the (hopefully) imminent start to the ski season.  We had our own intimate area upstairs under the peaked roof. We started off by mingling and having a before dinner drink or two.  Then it was time to sit down and pick among three delectable choices for the main course.  By all accounts, the food and the conversation were all splendid and a good time was had by all.  Check out the photos on the web site.

Many thanks to Joanna Cumyn for doing all the work to find the restaurant and organize a very fine evening!

Welcome Back!

Yes, summer is over.  All the signs are there.
It’s the middle of September, the kids are back at school, and the days are
getting shorter (sunset is at 7:11 pm today).  And is here yet another clear
sign that summer is really over — your first email from the Beaver Tails
Nordic Ski Club!

Now don’t get *too* excited, we are still a long way off from hitting the ski
trails!  But in keeping with our custom, we like to have a long and slow
ramp-up to the ski season with activities that keep getting us outdoors, even
though the days are shorted and the temperatures are dropping.  Your
Beaver Tails club is here to help fill that long gap between the end of
summer and the arrival of snow with a schedule of Wednesday evening outings and
Sunday hikes.

We have a last skier

Hello Tom, Steven Ostroff here, I think Sung Hee and I might qualify for last skiers among Beavertails. We went to Morin Heights on Wednesday April 6, and just to make sure I skied the Triangle on Friday April 8. Red KR klister was the thing to use. I’m sure the golf course will soon not appreciate skiers on their grass in the next day or two as snow is getting pretty thin in those exposed areas.

Last to ski update… March 29

Well the excitement is mounting this year on who will be the last to ski, of course the only prize to be won will be the bragging rights.

Early leaders Mickey and Sharon , were over taken by Jessica, who was in turn displaced by Steve. However currently Maria and Robbie are well established as the front runners with their Orford saga. However with days of snow left there is always a chance that a dark horse may gallop through and Continue reading

March 19 — 56 Revellers at the End of Season Party

The Beaver Tails took over the intimate confines of the Sucré Salé Crèperie last Sat evening.  On an evening when the “super” full moon was on grand display in the sky, a boisterous gang of us gathered to celebrate what has been another good year of cross-country skiing.  We had many great outings, including very successful weekends at Gatineau and Mont Ste Anne.

The crowd in the restaurant was already thick at Continue reading
