Canadian Ski Marathon
Ski Clinic Jan 25
On Sat Jan 25 at 1 pm we held our annual ski clinic at Morin Heights. The weather turned out to be just great. We had a one-day respite from the latest polar vortex — the temperature was already -8 C at 10 am when some of us arrived for an early ski. It was also snowing a good bit, although that made for a slower drive up north, even for those of us who had left town at 9 am. As a result, those of us who had planned to meet at 10 am finally set out to ski at 10:50 am. We only had time to venture out part of the way on trail 2 and then turn back on the 37, but we still skied 9 km before the clinic.
We gathered in the trailer at the upper parking lot, with Glenn K taking attendance. The start of the lessons was delayed by 30 minutes–three of the instructors were traveling together and had locked their keys in the car on the way! We then broke up into the four groups: beginner, intermediate, advanced and skating. The lesson went for about 90 minutes and as usual, we all learned or improved something about our skiing. The feedback was that three of the four instructors were great. But a great day was had by all! And then, since it was late afternoon and the snow was still falling, a slow drive home was had by all. But I’m sure everyone felt it had been worth it!
With 24 clinic attendees and a couple of other members just there to ski, it was one of our best turnouts of people skiing so far this season. A big thank you to our organizer, Glenn K, for another great clinic!
“To the Mont Tremblant Weekenders… a message from our organisers.
“To the Mont Tremblant Weekenders…
This weekend couldn’t have been such a success without your presence and participation. It’s was our pleasure to have organize a weekend for such a fun bunch of people. We can always count on the BTer”s to pull out their snow shoes or skates to enjoy the weekend if the conditions don’t look so favorable for skiing. For those who skied… I think we were quiet surprised at how great the conditions actually were on Saturday. I know Cheryl and I enjoyed our weekend very much. I hope everyone made it home safe without too many delays on the road. Wishing you all a great and safe rest of season, skiing!

Jan 04 Pot Luck, Jan 05 Gai Luron
Pot Luck
Saturday morning on Mount Royal was cold, still an small group of diehards assembled at Beaver Lake. This group consisted of a few walkers, a snow shoe-er, two skiers , one runner, one ice skater and a partridge in a pear tree. Actually we did not see the skater or the partridge come to that, but we have her word for that she was there, the skater that is. We spent about 2 hours on the mountain which was filling up fast with skaters, skiers and walkers. BTNSC was put to shame by groups of young kids taking skiing lessons whilst we only had two. Still everyone had a good time, did I mention it was cold, before heading off to Monique’s. Monique had once again opened her home for the Club Hot Pot, which was very welcome for
the gang from the mountain, and others who just came for the food and chat. This year we had music with Sharon playing the piano for the assembled guests, just like being in the Piano bar at the Savoy. After thanking everyone , messenger boy announced the long awaited venue for Sunday, Gai Luron. In true Montreal style Messenger boy bribed the membership to come out by suggesting a 9 am start instead of eight, an idea that was Continue reading
