Wednesday March 13 Mount Royal

On Wed evening, 13 of us assembled at Mount Royal:  10 skiers, 2 walkers, and 1 ice-skater/snow-shoer.  The trails had been tracked and were in great shape.  The temp was about -3 C so most of went with the violet wax.  It was yet another great evening of skiing at Mount Royal.  It has been a pretty good winter for skiing at the mountain, based on the number of times we have been able to get out there.  Afterward, fully 10 of Continue reading

Local skiing in March

Tuesday, new snow and sun, sorry spinning class you lost out today. A small group of retired person, layabouts and status unknown gathered at Cap St Jacques to enjoy the good conditions. Sadly the trails had not been packed or tracked except by skiers so we had back country trails on the West Island, oh why did I give up my spinning class this was harder work. Still round we went and by the time we returned to the parking lot it was very busy. They must have had fun as there was only one single track and as I mentioned it wasn’t easy. Many of the skiers had a few words to say given that tracking would have provided excellent conditions. Wednesday, may be the last good day so this time it was sorry Yoga and off to Les Cedres. A colder wind today but all the trails tracked so we had a good morning of skiing. Regrettably our communication with Nancy was not too successful and we met up with her as we returned and she was heading out. Hope you enjoyed it Nancy.

BTNSC Cap St Jacques, Mercredi, 22 Fevrier 2011

It was logical to assume there wouldn’t be any skiing following recent rains and warm temperatures that revealed grass poking through what remained of the snow. However, someone decided it would be a great evening to ski. The logic behind this decision was based upon an alleged report stating that ski conditions were ‘bon’, as opposed to ‘passable’, or downright crappy. Who would have known

Wednesday skiing February 16

Mount Royal Feb 16 from Tom:
We had about 12 skiers out on a lovely evening with fresh snow, -7 C and low wind. Most of the group completed the 10.5 km loop.

Cap St Jacques Wenesday night February 16 : Linda H reports good conditions. Of course the weather has warmed up now.

Les Cedres Wenesday February 16 : Chritine BM comments:

Skied Les Cedres and its was very icy beyond trail # 2, they have only groomed # 2  which I only realized when I went down the ravine which has become an ice slide! and the rest of the trail is also all ice. i.e hills are also very difficult to get up.

Local skiing this week

Due to the good snow conditions locally several people have been out during the week. Skiers went to  Les Cedres, at least two nights of skiing on Mount Royal, 4 skiers at Cap St Jacques Wednesday night and 4 skiers out during Thursday morning at Bois de Liesse. I am sure I have missed some outings, it’s just too good to be true, make the most of it.

February 09 The Mmountain:  notes from Tom

Last Wed we had nine skiers out on Continue reading

February 02 5 Skiers in the Snowstorm at Mount Royal

The storm was still not over as Ray M and I drove from the West Island to Mount Royal on Wed evening.  But as we predicted, there were few cars on the highway and it was clear sailing.  Maria, Helene C and Cheryl were the other fearless souls joining us on the mountain.  The chalet was almost deserted.  The rental counter was closed due to the “flabergasting” conditions (according to the sign they had posted).  The trails had not been groomed of course Continue reading

Cap St. Jacques Feb 2nd

Wednesday night skiing at Cap St. Jacques – 4 not so bright beavertailers braved the winter storm to ski the trails.  Are we crazy or what?  Whose idea was this?  Robert started it!  No Ray started it.  Whoever started it – it turned out to be a great idea.  The center had groomed earlier in the afternoon but the wind swept away some of the trails.

Lights were not needed (hence the not so bright!) and the glide was awesome.  The only challenge was finding the trails!  In the woods the trails were brilliant.

Jan 26 — 10 Skiers and 2 Skaters at Mount Royal

With a few cm of fresh snow and a temp of -9 C, conditions were great at Mount Royal last Wed.  Two BTers went skating (something about giving some blisters from skiing at Gatineau a rest), while ten others hit the trails.  Our group included a couple of people doing night skiing at Mount Royal night for the first time.  The conditions were good.  The tracks were often shallow but otherwise the descents were controllable.  It was another refreshing evening at Mount Royal.
