End of Season Party March 17

The End of Season Party took place last Saturday at the Il Fornetto restaurant in Lachine.  And boy, if there was ever a year that the season had definitely ended, it was this one!  With our leap from winter directly to summer, there was clearly no way that anyone was going to get out on their skis again.  Or were they??  See the next item…!

But back to the party.  It was a grand affair and a great success!  We gathered on the second floor of the restaurant and occupied four tables.  The evening was one of non-stop conversation and revelry.  Everyone enjoyed the company and the food, in equal measure.  When we arrived the place was full, but by the time we left we were the last customers.

A big thanks goes out to Joanna, who once again this season came through to organize a big event on relatively short notice.  Thank you, Joanna!

Tom hits the air waves again

Our Pres Tom V was on CBC Monday morning, doing a great job. Watch out Guy Thibaudeau there is an heir apparent on the horizon. Sadly T did not win an Oscar that went to the back yard ice rink guy who was defeated by rats, yes rats and he lives in NDG.

Check the podcast: http://www.cbc.ca/daybreakmontreal/2012/02/winter-weather-returns-to-montreal.html
Tom is about 1 min 40 secs from the beginning. Followed by the back yard ice rink.

Viking Loppet Feb 26

A few club members took on the challenge of the Viking Loppet this weekend with very good results.
In the 20km Classic Tom V came in under 2 hrs and Jessica M at 2hrs 19 min just beat her dad Ray M by a few minutes. Not to be out done Linda M completed the 5kms Raquette for a very successful family day . Other ex club members also competed in the Loppet, Tony G and Blanch H and both had successful outings. A great achievement by everyone. (Sorry I do not have a photo of Jessica..Keith)

Gatineau Keskinada Feb 18 & 19

Another success for our speedy Ghyslaine  D in the 31km Classique. Placed 4 out of 8 in her catagory, 38 out of 75 in her gender and 120 out of 222 overall, in a time of 2hrs 13 min 13 sec. Pretty impressive, what will she do next. Wait for the next installment of “The Flying Ghyslaine”

Ghyslaine was not alone at Gatineau, on Sunday Egon N competed in the 31 kms skate loppet. Egon also had impressive results, 3 ot 6 in his catagory, 194 out of 210 in his gender and 257  out of 291 total in a time of 2hrs 13 min 42 secs. For those who do not know Egon he skated in the Men 70 and + catagory. WOW!!!

Congrats to both of them…..Keith

Canadian Sk Marathon Feb 11 – 12

Scott and Pam’s Reort from the CSM
Scott B successfully completed silver at the CSM, skiing in wintery and VERY cold conditions with frostbite a real danger. There was a distinct lack of snow with many bare or icy patches that made the event even more difficult as the toughest descents needed to be walked. This year the event ran from west to east which made for an easier Sat. but a really tough Sunday. The dreaded section 3 took it’s toll causing many to miss the Section 4… 3:15 PM cut-off . (how and where do you train for a 4Km climb?

We did meet up with Glenn and Isabel with their daughter Melissa… who is a real cutie pie.
Both Kathie Mills and Monique Magnan joined us for the weekend and kept Pam company, skiing 1 section a day. Kathie and Pam were part of a team (the Silver Foxes) complete with special headgear. Attached are all the pictures we took which you can use if you wish.
Tired but Happy!
