To ski or not to ski – that is the question!

We have had an odd kind of winter.  Lots of snow but warm temperatures have made cross country skiing a tad difficult.
We have our weekly conclave.  “Them in the know” sequester themselves at the local Tim’s to discuss what to post in the email going out to members.  Will people want to drive a long distance?  What will the conditions be like?  I can attest they don’t leave until a decision is made. The venue is chosen and the notice is sent.  This still does not ensure that everyone will go.
Some of us have been sidelined by injury and afraid to venture on technically difficult terrain.  Some of us have been to Gai Luron so often we are beginning to regret not buying a season’s pass.  Still others find the local park (Cap St. Jacques) is more than adequate if it is going to be an arm day and you don’t have wax-less skis.
That is what is the forum is for.  Now that the season is winding down, we can’t take our bikes out quite yet, so we are still trying to find someplace to ski.  It is great when people who do go out, take the time to report back in on the forum regarding how the conditions are.  However not all of you know the Beavertails lingo yet so here is a brief primer!
You can read “Trails were in good condition” but you have to take a look at who wrote the statement.
If it is the “Pres” you have to take that statement and divide it by 10.  He will ski on anything.
If it is our “sci de fondo” racer, you divide by 5.  She too will be more than happy to ski on anything as she had a nice Italian trip to motivate her.
If it is “Lulu’s mistress”, divide by 2.  Apparently she means it was a technical ski – or no kick and all arms for skiing.
I would like to propose that we come up with a grading system for future postings on the website.  Here is my suggested criteria: 1. What kind of wax did you use? If I have to put klister on my skis – I am not going anywhere no matter how good you say the trails are! 2. Did the center groom the trails?  – if I ask I usually mean – did they groom them recently? And finally , the most important criteria of all…..
3. Did you need a nap to recover from your skiing and how long was it? Once we have all these facts then I think we will be better able to decide if we of lesser skiing abilities want to venture out!
