Giant Hiking

We are going to take the Ridge Trail, which is the shortest route to the top and has some good lookouts along the way.  The total distance there and back is 9.6 km.  The summit is at 4627 ft (1410m) and the net elevation gain is 3050 feet (930 meters).  There are some brooks to cross and some very steep sections, but they are all doable, no ropes or anything like that is required.  However, people with bad knees or hips should be careful.  Good hiking boots and hiking poles are needed.  Also, it can be quite chilly at the top, so mitts/gloves, a hat and a windbreaker, and extra fleece are  recommended.  Your backpack should also include rain gear and enough food and water.  The hike will take 5 to 6 hours.

We will depart at ** 7 am ** from the optional carpool rendezvous at the Dorval shopping centre.  From there the trip is about 2 hr 10 min, depending on the border crossing.  *** Remember to bring your passport! ***  :

From the Dorval traffic circle, take Aut 20 east, and cross the Champlain Bridge. Take Aut 15 to the border and continue on I-87.  Take exit 30 to Routes 73 & 9.  Follow route 9 North for about 4 km.  Then stay left on Route 73 north for 6.5 km.  The trailhead will be on the right.  There is a small parking lot at the trailhead and more at the Chapel pond (300 m north).
